DRN886S Ford D1617/CFE WrL Lancsmid 1970s note dayglo only on the front which was a Lancs habit at that time. Cost saving. Dayglo by Dane & Co paints of Stratford was expensive.
Late Alastair Collins collection - used with permission.

HCBA Fords at the time had a transitional B pillar and rear door, which looked a lot better, especially on units which were overall painted red!
But all of these were an improvement on HCBA's first efforts on the ten original D series appliances supplied to Gloucestershire in 1967. These - several of which are on this site - had the original cab and a box body behind, which included the crew seating. Not very pretty, but still effective!
