GMC Ford D semi trailer CU

1970s Looks like exercise Ringway Airport Manchester. GMC had a number of semi trailer control units over the years mostly based at Agecroft.

Late Alastair Collins collection - used with permission.

I have not heard of many fire brigades using semi trailers anywhere, except as high capacity tankers.

Are there any other examples?

I am writing an article at the moment about their use in UK. They are a surprising number. Will appear in Fire Cover hopefully at some point.

The former South Glamorgan had a community fire safety unit based on a semi trailer and Strathclyde had semi trailer based BA training units.
I'm not aware of any other semi trailer units that ran on "blues and two's" in the UK however.

If you look at Delta 64 site Merseyside. Bankhall/Kirkdale had an Austin tractor unit with 2 semi-trailers and Belle-Vale had another Austin with a semi-trailer.

Also on the Delta 64 site Cheshire had at least a couple of Leyland traactor units, one at Winsford and one at Northwich.
