mid 1970s Bankhall Merseyside. Liverpool then Merseyside had extensive docks and a large marine fire fighting unit for ship fires with several vehicles, including the ex Birkenhead FB Commer Sun Foam tender, and a semi trailer.

The black plastic grille and square headlights were an effort to modernize the styling of the D series cab, as a stop-gap measure to keep sales flowing until the D series was replaced by the Cargo.

I personally do not think the effort was very successful. On this rig, it might have looked better painted red to match the rest of the cab...

And I believe that Shrewsbury now holds the distinction of having the largest number of frontline vehicles on-the-run in the country. Don’t know the number though. Sorry.
