June 2018 Fire Brigade Soc visit. The bodies on these were started by TVAC but finished by Welsh F&RS workshops due to financial difficulties at the bodybuilders in late 2008/9. TVAC=the vehicle application centre, Leyland, Lancashire.
This particular appliance was transferred from NWFRS to Airbus as their domestic response to this large site employing 6000 workers, that builds all wings for Airbus planes.

These have been around for more than twenty years, in daily use in many countries, and there is no good reason that any body builder should have been unable to buy and install a fully reliable powered ladder gantry!

The fact that the first firm could not finish the job and the workshops had to complete them may be an indication of why the system they used was wonky.

It is a pity the Welsh services decided that they had to revert to the old gravity system, because these powered gantries are used in many countries and have had a great record for years of solid reliability...
