Fire Engine Photos
Clarnico fire brigade Hackney E London
Early 1900s. This was a famous East London sweet factory founded by Clark and Nicholls (hence Clarnico). They employed hundreds right on the border of London FB and Essex (West Ham FB). In case of fire they called London. It was a very progressive employer with brass band, choral society, company nurse and ambulance, and a fire brigade. They even had an early profit sharing scheme. Some of its buildings survive. One was turned into a power station for the Stratford Olympic Park.
