Commer/HCB WrT ex Kent (Gillingham)

mid 1980s fire engine rally, possibly Duxford, possibly Parham, Park. This appliance dates from first half of 1950s so must be one of the first fire engines fitted with roller shutters. I cannot make out registration - ends 702 (PKX?)

Not only has this brigade got a perfectly decent forward control Commer chassis with no front doors, but they also ended up with the first aid hose reels way up above the bodywork! At least the even earlier Whitson Commers had proper front doors and a step and grab handle - so it was much easier to unroll the hosereels om the roof, even if someone still had to climb up on the roof from the rear to rewind them after use....

I don't know when Alfred Miles started building fire appliances, but they were very early in the game too with roller shutter lockers. And both Miles and Carmichael installed the hose reels low down just behind the rear doors where they were easy to access, and to rewind!
