FDNY is one of very few departments here who are still buying and operating Baker Aerialscopes, and there are no tower ladders in their fleet - although they do have both straight stick aerials and a few tillers too.

The reason, I am told, is that modern rear mount towers just do not fit inside a lot of ladder company fire houses, so the older mid-mount Baker designs are the best alternative. The fleet includes both 75 and 95 foot versions, and they are widely and very effectively deployed, often in the water tower role.

After all, they have been around for decades, so their crews are all very familiar with what they can do with them!
