New Zealand Ford - ADQ987

This 1938 Ford V8 was built by the Colonial Motor Company. It served its entire operational life with the Ashburton volunteer fire brigade. It is now part of the Ashburton Fire Museum. It was photographed in April 2016.

New Zealand was probably unique in that for several years the fire services seemingly very happily bought both British and American fire trucks and used them side by side. Some of the Yanks had British-style local bodywork - and, as a result, looked a bit Belgian or Dutch - but many were like this example and looked just like American rigs, even though they had local bodywork. This even has a side-hung ladder!
