Ward LaFrance P80 (Ambassador series) as a moving memorial to the members of FDNY Rescue 5 being used to bring wounded warriors (US Service personnel who have lost limbs in combat and are still in rehab at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Washington DC). This is an annual, three day event providing adaptive aquatics such as scuba diving, water skiing, ocean fishing, a Statue of Liberty dinner cruise. held in the Rockaways, NY. Earlier years had participation by BLESMA (British Limbless Ex-Servicemen's Association) members. They had the same loss of limbs as our guys.
FF Carl Bini was a member of R5 responding to the WTC incident on 9-11-2001 which occurred at 0845, just before change-of-shift so both night and day crews were present in quarters when the alarm sounded (all over NYC). Twelve members responded, only one escaped LODD.
