The IFA 50 series were built in the DDR and used extensively in many other Warsaw Pact countries including Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic.

I am assuming this is most likely participating as a historical vehicle in a parade, as it would be unlikely that one of these would still be in front line service.

But it is difficult to guess its exact age, as this design was introduced in the 1960s and barely evolved until they went out of production thirty years later!

The same chassis, with a two, six or nine seat cab, was used also for pumpers, water tenders, rescues, foam tenders, hose trucks and a wide variety of other special purpose units.

The local German IFA vehicles wore a broad horizontal white paint band, known locally as the "belly bandage", similar to the Netherlands fire services in those days.
