mid 1970s Norman Tarling photo. I have not been able to identify this but is this a Dennis with the unusual grille. see picture #21047 for comparison. Looks like same vertical.

definitely a Dennis. If you go to www.fire-engine-photos.com/picture/number25816.asp - it shows Ex Grimsby/ex Cape Hill F24 with same type grill

so the next question is which Dennis chassis is this on. Presumably not F8 with that grille so is it a F26, F24 or maybe F23? Derbyshire certainly ordered F26s at this time (late 1950s) according to dennissociety database.

I have studied the Dennis production records and can find no trace of this Reg No nor Dennis machines supplied to Derbyshire....I would appreciate more details....I would guess this is a Bedford Miles.

Believe this is a Bedford TJ4L/Miles ET ex - Derby County Borough FB, later converted to a FoST.
Compare with pic #14669, although grille is very different as noted.

Added by Phil Reed on 05 February 2015.
The grill might be a recycled Dennis one, possibly after damage. Otherwise this looks very much like a Bedford Miles ET. Another possibility is that the grill was fitted by their workshops to improve air flow.

Added by Tony Morris on 06 February 2015.
Apparently the conversion was done when it was at Old Warden Airfield.

Definatly a Bedford with Alfred Miles bodywork....very similar to the Bootle ET...this picture appears to have been taken when the appliance had entered 'preservation' ...any body know if it still survives ?

Added by Rick Loudon on 07 February 2015.
It is a Bedford TJ5/Miles. When new it was fitted with he standard Miles triangular grille. The Dennis Pax grille is a late addition.

Added by Ronald Henderson on 10 February 2015.
Further information on KCH 999. This is in fact a Bedford/Miles ET/Control Unit. The Dennis grill is thought to be a local workshops replacement probably following an accident. The appliance is shown on another photograph c/w the original grill and the registration can be clearly seen, unfortunately the photograph cannot be shown at the moment due to copyright.

Definitely a Bedford, probably a j5 , the wheels and only Bedford front hubs give the game away.

Added by Alan Ramsay on 18 March 2017.
Not to mention the round Bedford badge at the front.
