The preconnected "squirrel tail" hard suction was a relatively new idea in this era, intended to facilitate faster hook-up to the hydrant. This is a triple combination with water tank and first aid hose reel, as well as pump and hose bed. Most ALF pumpers at this time were still rotary gear designs, but centrifugal pumps were gradually becoming more common.
