This would have been early 1990s when the aerial fleet was moved around. On many occasions when Paddington didn't have the suitably qualified personnel to man their E or U type TL, they would send over Soho's TL, with crew and tell them to badge up as Paddington for the shift, then return for end of shift. Nice photo of Soho's TL badged as Paddington.

Wonder why London bought the French Camiva - unlike Metz or Magirus, very few Camiva TLs were sold in export markets. It certainly looks unique!

I was told Magirus effectively sold the contract to Csmiva and LFB were obligated to purchase these even though they tried to get out of it. An underdeveloped electric levelled cage was specified instead of the proven mechanical one, which gave real problems which ended in them being removed permanently. Ultimately they became a reliable and liked ladder until they were superseded by the current DLK23-12CS Magirus units.

London had 3 of these Dennis F127 John Dennis/Camiva EPA30 TL's. TL48 E868JYV at F29 Leyton, TL49 E869JYV at A24 Soho and TL50 E870JYV at G34 Chelsea.

Where are these now?

TL49 was written off in 2005, TL50 was broken up, TL48 still exists, whereabouts unknown.

Staffordshire F&RS in England had a Dennis F127 Camiva TL on an E plate. Served its whole life at Hanley in Stoke-on-Trent. Beautiful appliance just like the above London TLs.
