Blaenau Ffestiniog Fire Station

The lads were only to happy to run the trucks out for a photo session on a very cold March evening 2013 if only to get out of a hazchem lecture.
Seen here is one of the four Steyr Pinzgauer L6Ps and their newer Mercedes Atego WrLr.

Simon, is this in Wales? Because if so, then the Steyr would certainly be a blessing.

Blaenau Ffestiniog is in the top left hand corner of Wales, at the top end of the world famous Ffestiniog Railway, the oldest unincorporated railway company in the world. At the Llechwedd Slate Caverns in the town is an old Curricle escape ladder at least there was about 5 years ago. The FfR have a superbly restored steam fire engine in their bar at Porthmadog where there is also a Pinzgauer stationed.

The wheeled escape is still there and managed to phohot it. It is in a sorry state and in need of buckets of TLC. It is an 1896 Merryweather street escape mounted on a hose carriage.

I doubt there's a station anywhere in the world with a more impressive backdrop. Great photo.

The main problem is that the liquid sunshine tends to be a tad excessive!
