Worthing line up Feb 19th 2012

Worthing, West Sussex, on Sunday Feb 19th 2012 L-R. Reserve Dennis Rapier S270 UOW running as retained crewed 3rd WTL 01P3, Scania P270/CP28 HRT HX58 KHR - 01R1, Volvo FL10 ALP R331 SPO - 01A1, Scania P270/CP31/JDC HX06 OMH normally the retained WTL, running as 2nd WTL 01P2, in place of CAFS fitted Scania HX06 GMO which was off the run, and in new "economy" Battenbury livery Scania P280/CP31/JDC HX11 HYH -01P1.
Interestingly the reserve Rapier was running with the 135 ladder off HX06 GMO so was displaying the 01P2 call sign on the ladder despite running as 01P3, and HX06 OMH was running with a reserve 135 ladder. As far as I know West Sussex is the only Brigade to display call signs on the rear of 135 ladders on their WTLs. Photos hampered by the usual winter problem at Worthing, of the sun always being in the wrong place for line up shots!

The currant fire station in Worthing celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year and will be holding a special'Open Day'to mark the occasion on Saturday 28th July, 2012.The official opening of this station actually took place though way back on Saturday 22nd September, 1962.
I'm in the process at this moment of putting together a Fifty Golden Years Souvenir Programme which will include photographs from the actual day, pictures from the past, and pictures of the present Worthing Fire Brigade.

You will probably find that everything on the spare Rapier is marked up as 01P2. It saves having to move everything twice if that makes sence.
Im surprised the Rapier is running as the 3rd as normally the wholetime love trading the Scania's in for a Rapier for a few weeks.

Well, you know my thoughts on Scania's Stuart, give me a Dennis anytime, there can't be to many of these lovely old Dennis machines left on the fleet now can there?.On saying that though, brigade reduce Lancing from a 2 pump station to a one pump, then leave a spare pump(Dennis)sitting in the station yard for weeks, and weeks.Went into Worthing the other week and there were 2/3 unused machines just sitting there.Still, with afew spares knocking about, the brigade should be able to save abit of money this year and not buy anymore new appliances, which really are not needed at this time.
PS.I'm still waiting on that picture mate of Petworth, or have you lost it completely?.Pete.

Stuart, Indeed I thought it was a bit unusual, just like the old days when I was a boy and the retained always got the reserve appliance which in those days was an old Bedford - the retained crew are obviously missing their Rapier as well! Jon

Pete, the Rapier that sits at Lancing is allocated to Driver Training (V742FCR). The 2 that sit at Worthing are with training centre, the 3rd being a reserve.

We have just had to put a spare Rocket on the run at Petworth in place of the Dagger (I broke it).

Ref the pics I'm going to re take them as the set I have are very dark.

Jon it used to be the same at 2 WrL retained stations, the spare would always run as 2nd WrL.
