Isuzu Western Australia SJ 1665

Isuzu medium pumpers X 11 (AR 1969 ) These pumpers were imported complete, other than hose, ex Japan. Fitted with Morita semi self-priming pumps and overdrive synchro-mesh gear box. Two were placed into country permanent stations. They were considered to be a stopgap appliance.

From memory I believe the roofs were red. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who rode these machines what they were like at the time?

Pav:

All Japanese fire service vehicles are solid red - with white striping on rescues - so these may have had the roofs painted white after delivery, so as to match other Australian units.

Were Japanese units in common fire service use in Australia by 1969, or were these early examples?

G'day Rob, I believe these would have been the first Japanese fire appliances imported into Western Australia, not certain about the rest of the country. Busselton on the coast south of Perth also have an Isuzu ELF donated to them by their Japanese sister City of Sugito. Quite a neat smaller unit.

Thanks Pav.

The thin edge of the wedge, I guess....
