The chassis is a Ford C-Series commercial model. E-One did the fire apparatus body, pump, and other equipment. Ford C-models were built from 1957 to 1990; remarkably, there's been very little external change to the cab in all those years. These trucks have been quite popular in small US departments, and some large ones. The Washington, D.C. department had a large number in the 1980s.

Major cities with C series included Boston, Chicago and Los Angeles. The classic rear-facing crew seat and canopy cab allowed the cab to be tilted for maintenance and checking levels. Service and parts were very easy, and they were durable and reliable. The C series was also used for ladder trucks, rescues and such applicatioins as foam tenders. Four doors were rare, and the DC trucks had a separate boxy crew cab, which looked awful.
