Bosham Fire Brigade.West Sussex.

On the 31st March,2011 Bosham Fire Station in West Sussex will close its doors for the very last time when the station is closed due to Government cut-backs on local County Council expenditure.West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service have had to make the drastic decision to close some stations in the county, and reduce fire cover at some stations from being 2 pump stations to just one pump.
The appliance seen here was new to Bosham back in 1987 and was a Dennis DS151/Carmichael WrL with the registration D556 DOR.It seemed as a tribute it only right in showing at this sad time a picture which will remind everyone(West Sussex)that since 1938 that there was a fire station in Bosham, but like so many changes taking place today, somethings do have to go,but even today why stations are being closed is beyound me.Other fire stations also to close as of the 31st,March in the County are the retained stations at Keymer and Findon.

Pete, thanks for your info and pictures of the three stations being shut. Very sad indeed for the dedicated personnel who served at these stations, doing their bit for the community and this is the thanks they get! Were the stations very quiet? More importantly, how far away is the nearest pump now?

Bosham is now covered by Chichester - about 5 miles away, which gives Chichester quite a large fire ground. Next nearest statuion is Emsworth in Hampshire. Thanks to Pete for posting these 2 pictures as I have never managed to get a decent picture of a Bosham appliance. A sad day indeed, but to be realistic we should be grateful it didn't close a few years ago!, when a recruitment champagne prolonged it's life by a few years.

I never heard of champagne being such an effective recruitment tool, but it does sound like an interesting idea!

Yes, Rob, sounds very interesting!

"Right, you lot! Neck these two glasses of bubbly, run those two lengths of hose out, and then scale that ladder. Double-quick time. If you burp, you fail!"
