A Truly exhausted crew,( Sub Officer Tom Walker at the wheel) turns out from Kidderminster Fire station H&WFB, on stand-by, having been out several times during a very hot and dry spell. They had already attended a 5 pump incident prior to stand-by duties at the Rifle- range in Kidderminster. Appliance call sign. 2-2-1.

Andy, brilliant action shot. Love the leading hand in the back trying to book mobile whilst holding on for dear life.

If anyone wonders why the officer in charge was driving, it was because Tom could drive faster than anyone else this side of the river Severn, even doing 70mph up the Dunley in third gear in the old Angus…. or so rumor has it!

Brilliant to think that a 5 pump shout could have been dealt with by just Kiddy and S'port's pumps alone. Boo to the fire cover review!

Must have been a good days business that day, don't even see the HP in bay (left).

Keep the H&W photos coming, nice to see what wheels my dad was driving back in the day.

Dear Lee, in those days Kiddy had 3 Machines, WrL 241, WrT 243, WrT2 (R'td) 244, & HP, 246. The C.U was also based here originally, then moved to Droitwich stn. 26. Stourport had WrL & WrT. Bewdley WrL, 231. A 5 pump job was well covered then!

Lee, I think the HP is parked out the back behind it's bay, you can just about make it out in the photo. Was your dad Trevor (Erny) Merrick by any chance?

Hi Matt,

Yes he is, I think that I can admit that in public now! and Tom Walker was my neighbour up to a few ago. It's a small world.
