One of Berlin's 41 ladders. All have baskets (DLK) and are designated 23-12, to reflect optimal maximum vertical height combined with horizontal reach. Almost all are on MAN chassis, as are the vast majority of Berlin's LHF pumper fleet, but there are a few IVECO-Magirus units, including two low-profile versions.

This is one of three different liveries used in Berlin, depending on when the units were first placed into service.

Each of Berlin's 34 full-time stations has a ladder, and all structure fires are attended by at least one. A few are also allocated to some of the 54 volunteer fire companies in central areas of the city.

The fleet now includes one Metz 37 meter ladder and a 50 meter four axle rear steered aerial platform, which is a special call unit and does not normally respond as part of any first due assignment. It was purchased to replace an industrial fire brigade's platform which was no longer based in the city. (German municipal fire services often rely on industrial brigades for highly specialized equipment like this.)

Two of the 32 meter ladders are five section designs, which enable them to be placed on short wheel base chassis with an overall length under nine meters - for maximum maneuverability in tight street confines.

Berlin pioneered rear steered two axle ladders some years ago, but no longer buy these, because of maintenence issues...
