What?! A Dennis with 3 axles? I've never seen it!

Added by Clarence on 25 April 2008.
I think Brunei FRD prefered three axle appliances in the Pre 2000 period. So in 1980s till now there are Simon Snorkels HPs and Water Tender Ladder (WRLs) built on 3-axle Dennis in the BFRD fleet. I think Brunei is one of the country in the worls which owns 3-axle Dennis fire appliances.

Dennis face 'extinction'in Brunei as in this 2 weeks BFRD had sold two units of this 1993 Dennis DFD/SK Fire WRLs possibly more and more Dennis will be sold as some of it are still at the workshop waiting for selling order from BFRD Seniors.

Hi Clarence i, ve seen a pic of a 3 axle dennis DS FOT on ebay it was from BNFL Springfeild site Ian mc

Added by Ian Mcpherson on 25 February 2009.
The three-axle pair that BNFL had (CPK 489/490T) were actually designated RF133.

Added by Ian Moore on 25 February 2009.

We used to own these. We purchased from BNFL direct. They were actually Dennis Delta3 according to the reg document and makes plate.

v8 640, grossely underpowered. The gear and axle ratio was all wrong.

Fantastic trucks tho
489 had a blown engine and was used to keep 490 going.

490 sold to national parks in the lake district last I heard.

The tank looks like it is much bigger than 2, 000 liters - probably 8, 000 or more. (2, 000 IG?)

This weight would help explain the power, performance and engine problems. Not the first case of overloading a chassis or driveline by a fire service and/or fire truck bodybuilder!
