The LF 10/6 replaced the LF8 as the standard base pumper for German volunteer fire companies. This one is on a 15 tonne Atego chassis with a 290 HP engine, which is fairly typical.

It has a slightly higher rated 1000 LPM pump, a water tank of at least 600 and often 1000 liters, a first aid high pressure hose reel system, a more comprehensive schedule of equipment including additional BA sets, and the same nine person seating capacity.

Some are now being ordered as rescue pumpers (HLF or LHF), with full extrication gear, such as those being supplied to Berlin's 84 volunteer fire companies.

Many are also being specified with CAFS, including systems which can now be used on both class A and B fires.

Increasingly, many larger volunteer fire companies are ordering some of these units with a shorter six man cab, as they prefer to send later arriving volunteers in a second unit rather than having the first due pumper wait for a full crew...

The 10/6 is proving such a useful rig that Heidelberg recently replaced both of their older full-time HLF 20/12s with new advanced specification HLF 10/6s.

Vienna also bought several similar units with reduced water tanks, because the new CAFS installation permits many fires to be extinguished so much faster that considerably less water is needed...
