Hi Graham, could you provide a more accurate date for this please? I'm trying to update my records.

Now that the national control room scheme has been scrapped, I wonder if there is much call for the national fire appliance call sign scheme. When over the radio came the message "Foxes 1 and 4 mobile home station" everyone knew it was the Fossway (Newcastle East) pump and ET on their way home.

Barry, The short answer to your question is no, the (so called) national callsign scheme doesn't have much use any more, and at least one brigade is going to revert to their old ones, since hardly any personnel can get used to the new callsigns.
It's also worth mentioning that it's not really national at all, since almost every brigade has their own "take" on things !
