1938 Bedford - Cheshire

This picture has been posted with the permission of the photographer, HCB-Angus archivist Aidan Fisher, who took it at the Astle Park Rally in Cheshire in 1981. It is a Bedford that dates from about 1938 but the questions are, what are its origins and where is it now? Does anybody recognise the young couple and their daughter who must, by now, be in her early thirties! Ian Moore has suggested that ENF 568 might have come from an ICI plant in the Manchester area but we have no firm evidence. Is it a Bedford WTH hosereel tender? Someone must know something about it so your feedback would be very much appreciated by Aidan, Ian and myself.

I have now had notification from Aidan Fisher who has received confirmation from a member of the Firescene Group who, in turn spoke to Robert Bonner, that this Bedford appliance is indeed ex ICI.

It was new to ICI Blackley in Manchester so the knowledgeable Ian Moore was correct. Robert has also said that it's a Bedford WHG and came out of service in the 1970s.

After that it was on display in the showroom of a Stockport car dealer and subsequently was owned by a couple of local preservationists in the northwest of England. Does anyone know where it is now?

I took the photograph (from my colour slide) and allowed it to be shown. I have also spoke to Bob Bonnner and the information given is correct. The present whereabouts are still unknown.
