Dorset Commer UFX157 Great Dorset Steam Rally

This picture was taken at the Great Dorset Steam Rally on 04/09/09 its not the best picture because the apliances were parked close together. it shows a Dorset Commer Karrier with bodywork by Carmichael which entered service in 1963 stationed at Weymouth. Aruond 1967 it was moved to Maiden Newton where it remained until taken out of service around 1978.

Ah you learn something new everyday, I always thought these were Commer appliances.

Further to my last comment is a Karrier not made by Commer then. There are photos on this website of the appliance that was parked next ot it at the Steam Rally this year and this appliance owner had described it as a 1959 Commer Karrier?.

Would love to see them.

Paul, they are Karrier Gamecocks which were built by Rootes Group which also built commers. They have the same engine as Commer fire engines with 'miles' type bodywork and share a lot of other parts so often get called commer Karrier's. Infact the Karrier was slightly smaller than commers so was useful to smaller brigades I own the Karrier next to Grahams and thanks to Graham the line up you saw at Great Dorset was made possible. It was great to see the Two Karriers together and I agree Grahams is a great example.
