1956 Karrier Gamecock Water Tender.

This was a 1956 Karrier Gamecock Water Tender of the Crowborough Fire Brigade and was new to Crowborough fire station in East Sussex and served there until 1970 then transferred to the reserve fleet at Newhaven until 1972,it was then sold into private ownership.
It was purchased by the present owners in 1992,who have carried out a complete restoration and was displayed at the'Bells n Bugles'Military and Emergency Services Show at the Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Museum at Halland near Lewes in East Sussex on 22nd and 23rd August,2009 where this photograph was taken.
This was just one of the many old classic fire appliances to attend this years event which was a great success and enjoyed by all.

East Sussex had a few of these, one survived on front-line duties until about 1973 at Newhaven as second WrT, and I believe Barcombe or Mayfield may have had one until 1974. There was one used as a BAT at Hove into the late 1970s, which I'd love to see a photo of if anyone has one.

I have the Ex East Sussex 1960 Karrier Gamecock SAP201. It's currently under going restoration. From what I have been told it was new to Mayfield in 1960 (unconfirmed) was at Wadhurst in 1971, but had also served at Rye. It transfered to west Sussex as a spare in 1974. It later ran as a works machine for Courtaulds Chemicals. It's still a runner, and the majority of the work is now needed on the cab front. See picture #28342 LAP476 shown above is still seen out and about Particually in the Sussex area, and is still immaculate!
