Merryweather Turntable Ladder

Merryweather TL seen at Odium Fire Show 2009. No further details known except that it appeared to have a 75 foot ladder rather than the more usual 100 foot. Can anyone provide details of its age and history?

It appears to be ex Surrey Fire Brigade, off to Odiham tomorrow, can't wait to see this one. It's a new one to me

Its a 1934 Merryweather/Albion/Merryweather 75ft Turntable Ladder that went new to Wimbledon and then served at Kingston before going out of service in 1963.It was the only one ever made.

Wimbledons old Tl and retired in 1963ish its a 1936 machine has an Albion 6ltr 4 cyl petrol engine and is owned by Mr Greenwood of Choham in Surrey

If my memory is correct, I got the following information from someone who knows the machine. It is unique, I understand it was built in 1935, whilst Merryweather badged, it is fundamentally an Albion chassis beneath. Originally with the Wimbledon Fire Brigade it went in to Surrey following Nationalisation. It served until there until mid 1960's, it has been with the current owner for approximately 15 years.

Merton & Morden Urban District Council FB also had a 75' 3 section Merryweather TL also on an Albion chassis. Instead of the bonneted normal control driving position it had forward control much as current vehicles. Mr Greenwood acquired it many years ago in a terrible condition, I dont know what has happened to it since.
The old Merton & Morden Fire Station was directly opposite the current Wimbledon Fire Station.

Read yours Mike and thanks for the info. Was the old Merton & Morden Fire Station in Kirkley Road, opposite the current Wimbledon station? Do you know of any pictures? I have seen pictures of the forward-control TTL which passed to Surrey after WW2 and I may have actually seen it, as a child, when it was parked up at the Fairfield cattle market in Kingston. Happy days!

It was at Queens Road Fire Station as rightly stated I was lucky enough to have been on it during 1959.
