Don't give up hope on the old girl just yet the owner has just started up as a vehicle restorer he has some nice vehicles himself, so there is hope.

Andrew, Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board in 1958 had an appliance at Parnell Fire Station overlooking the Waitamata Harbour that was a Karrier Carmichael registered number EZ 1869. It is similar to this machine but had a window between the front door and the folding crew compartment doors, and the body work was painted red. Also it did not have nearside/offside hose reels, but I think from memory, a single mid-mounted hose reel at the rear under the ladder housing.

In my rush and exitment( does this make me sad?) I forgot to take a rear shot. I'm bound to go past again sometime this year I will try another visit.

Greetings from New Zealand. Back in '78 I was a rookie Volunteer from Kawakawa in the north, on a 2-week course in Auckland. On arrival at Balmoral fire station where I was to be stationed I found a 20-oddyr old Karrier as described by Pavel above. This relief machine was needed as someone had backed their International out the back door of the station, with the nearside crew door open, telescoping it into the bodyside! The Karrier had the Humber Super Snipe 6-cylinder petrol engine similar to our '65 Commer at home. On one turnout it stalled just as we left the station. The driver quickly declutched and hit an aux. elec. petrol pump switch on the dash, and it took off like a scalded cat. The mech. pump was not up to the task. Our Commer had the same problem, but they wouldn't listen when I reported the cure...

Hi Andrew,
I may stand corrected, but I believe that this may be an ex Essex County Fire Brigade machine?
Also, was this and the Bedford the only fire appliances at the yard? The bodywork and condition of the machine (missing bells and broken illuminating "FIRE" sign) make me wonder whether this was may be the same appliance that used to be parked alongside an Ex Surrey Dennis F44 - WPD 239G? (see picture 4308) in a field adjacent to the B3000 near Guildford, Surrey that I am trying to trace. They were both there for a number of years alongside various other commercials and agricultural equipment/vehicles that were included in sporadic auctions, failing to sell until one day they both finally went.

The site has now been I have grave doubts about the two machines

I think the Commer sold on ebay earlier this year. It was on with no reserve, and got bids.

Thanks for that Stewart....hope it gets restored, a big task though!

Andrew/all anyone happen to know the registration number of the above vehicle. I have been provided with a copy of the vehicle I mentioned (which I will post here if I can make it presentable) and it appears to be RJN or WJN 330 - would love to know it's history.

Karrier 75A"Gamecock"/Carmichael. John, JN is Southend-on-Sea CBFB. I don't recall Southend having any Karriers. They had two Dennis F8's GJN 746 and HJN 900. RJN 330 was Commer QX/Carmichael PE at Tylers Avenue and then transferred to Shoeburyness to replace HJN 900 where the escape was removed.

New to Southend on Sea Fire Brigade, Essex C.F.B. 1st April 1974.

I have managed to zoom in on the registration of the Karrier in the picture I have, it does indeed appear to be RJN 330. It is as pic 1851 above, so am a little confused by Andrew M's description of a Commer QX/Carmichael PE.
So does anyone know the reg of this vehicle pictured and any idea what happened to it?
If it is RJN 330, then it may help me trace the ex Surrey Dennis F44 (now identified as WPD 235G) that accompanied it for many years in a field in Surrey.

John, if it is indeed RJN 330, then someone's sold me duff info.

Added by Andrew Middleton on 17 August 2010.
Please to say its still around. Turned up in the West Country but now registered as PFJ 41G. Pity it lost RJN 330

Added by Peter Jarman on 29 August 2015.
Peter, very interesting. What condition is it in now and any insight in to its history?
Guessing doubtful - but anyone seen any signs of Dennis WPD 235G?
