Commer ex East Riding.

Here's another machine that you don't seem to see about these days. I photographed this back in 1985 at the York Historic Vehicle show. Where is this this now? The Sunderland Corporation Bus FBR53D just visible next to the fire engine is alive and well in the North East, so is the fire engine also?

Chris at the time you took the pic I was the owner of this Fire Engine, I sold it in 1988, last reports were that it was in the Tyne and Wear area somewhere

Thanks Gordon. Do you know it's full East Riding History?

Chris, KBT 78E, Commer OX/Carmichael was allocated to Beverley and then transferred to Pocklington, when Beverley were allocated a couple of K reg Ford D's in 1972. YBT773K was a Ford D0600/Pyrene WrT and BWF620K was a Ford D0600/Carmichael WrL. Hope this helps.

Beverley didn't have YBT773. For very long it was moved to Driffield about 1974 ran along side YBT772 which was also a ford d600. We had them both till around 1987

Carmichael built several appliances with this cab on quite a variety of chassis, including Albion, Bedford, Dodge and Ford as well as Commer. It was never clear to me why this custom cab was preferred to the more commonplace approach of building the crew cab behind the chassis manufacturer's standard lorry cab.
