Humberside Fire Brigade Shelvoke WrT

The appliance was delivered as a WrL but proved unpopular as the main ladder was difficult to un-ship. So It was then placed on the run as WrT with the main ladder removed.

It's quite sad that this appliance is not popular at the Humbershire FB.But in Brunei our firefighters like our Shelvoke appliances very much due to its size and it's maneuveribilty.

Hi this photo was taken at A2 stn Clough Road in Hull

Started life at Hull North (A2), then to Pocklington (A7) in 1986, 1992 it went to the reserve fleet and then disposed in 1995. THey whole fleet of S+D's were disposed of between 1992 + 1995.

When I was at Immingham in the eighties, the Shelvoke (C44) progressively fell to pieces. We hated it.It was replaced with a nice new Dennis!

I have to agree with Alan. We did hate it. This Shelvoke was horrendous to drive. Our initial delight at having a shiny new engine as water ladder was very soon knocked back when it was removed from the front line and given a role as second water tender at Immingham! Rolled around corners and the ladders were far to high!

Some would agree that Shelvoke's entry into the fire appliance business was rather hasty, with a very short development program, an unhappy focus on cost cutting and no new features which could not already be found on other makes.

All of this was the outcome of an almost desperate effort to beat Dennis at their own game, because Dennis was eating their lunch in their mainstay garbage truck business. No wonder they were forced to sell out to Dennis not many years later!
