hey Jan what does Directie Mobile Diensten mean? Because in the major paid German city brigades, high ranking officers are called a b and c diensts and so on and so forth. Do you know anything about this? With thanks from Tiger

Directie Mobile Diensten translates in to "mobile command services", which we call a mobile incident command unit in the UK or North America. It describes the role of the module, not any particular organization.

The German lettering system describes levels of officers. A Dienst are senior officers, B Dienst are the mid ranking officers and C Dienst are junior officers and riding firefighters.

Although not directly comparable, A would more or less equate to department chiefs, assistants and deputies, B to district or division chiefs and deouty chiefs, and C to batallion chiefs, captains and lieutenants. Although all German departments use the same ranks, insignia and ABC classification, the different levels of officers' roles do vary somewhat between departments, just as they do here in the US.

Hi Rob, This isn't a Mobile Incident Unit. In the Netherlands the emergency services are using Digital Communication, the so called C-2000 system. When one of the transmitting/receiving towers is down this unit can temporarily replaces the tower until it is on-line again.
