This is a Berlin HLF - Hilfeloeschfahrzeug - or rescue pumper. Berlin was one of the first cities to replace its entire pump fleet with rescue pumpers, following field trials with trucks they designed themselves. They realised that a major part of the job had become RTAs and rescues, and that serious fires were very few and far between. All Berlin city appliances have been MAN for decades. These units have a 2000 L/M pump, a 1200 liter water tank and a crew of six. Structure fires are attended by two HLFs, a TL and a command vehicle, with 16 personnel.
