Forgot to mention that this was previously a road rescue unit, but was discovered to be too top heavy and was rebuilt.

I can remember my uncle who was stationed at easterhouse, taking me and dad round the station and seeing this parked in the first bay. I also remember an appliance of some sort being stored in what was the workshop out back but can't remember what type of appliance it was. I was only 7 at the time!

Hi Stevie, i visited Easter station in the eighties, the machine in the workshop was a BMC van i think it was called a threpney bit cab? and it was used as to carry foam, it passed to Dallas recovery on London RD regards Ian Mac

Ian I think the BMC van was a FG Austin or Morris BMC or Leyland depending on the age

Could be:
NGE656F BMC/Bennett HiEx - Foam Unit
BGG944B BMC/Mitchell CU
DGA918B BMC/Mitchell CaVan
RHS520 Austin FFG/HCB HL/FoT
UHS171 Austin FFG/HCB HL/FoT
UHS236 Austin FFK/HCB HrT (Spare)

Dga 918b certainly wasn't the 'threepenny bit' type - it was an ld. the cu had the frontage of the 'threepenny bit', but conventional doors as a result of its bodywork. i'm posting a shot of nge 656f, which I think would be the vehicle to which ian mac refers.
