At one time we had a fleet of Kamaz garbage trucks in Kuwait, because they were cheap and could meet the tender at very short notice. They do look okay, but they were very poorly built and unreliable.

If I could not rely on them to pick up my rubbish, I do not think I would want to depend on them to respond to fire calls.

Indeed, if you look at some of the more recent fire videos in Russia, you may notice that there are quite a lot of Western European fire trucks there, but not as many Russian ones are in use now.

But Kamaz is doing each year a great job in the Dakar rally :)

Very true - but I don't think anybody believes the Dakar rally trucks really are standard production umits! More like specially engineered and hand built vehicles costing around $1, 000, 000 a piece:)
