The pod is really weird!!
It looks pretty like the toy car in the amusement centre. (you insert coin and it will shake :P)
does the pod have its own engine?
and is the prime-mover all-wheel-drive?

Added by Nex on 19 May 2010.
Hi Nex! Eyp.The pod has its own engine! And the primemover has all-wheel-drive! Its a 8x8/4. IAW 8 wheels, 8 wheels driven, and 4 wheels steered.

It is indeed an unusual rig. Most of these carriers in Germany are either 6X4 or 6X2 with a third steering axle for improved maneuverability.

Although it can carry other pods, the reason the city bought this off-road 8X8 is that it needs to drive over railway tracks and between them, to get the rail rescue unit on to the rails - so that it can go to work...

It is emphatically not a vehicle which anyone with a brain would want to drive very fast for very long on a normal street or highway!

They also had ex-military MAN 4X4 chassis water tenders for train fire response too at one time, but I think they have been retired by now...
